Campaign hints and tips
We have produced a set of six postcards - one representing each of the decades – for trusts to use as part of their local celebrations.
We are also provided t-shirts, pens and mugs for trusts to give away for the 60th anniversary. If you're one of the more than 200 NHS trusts taking part in our 60th anniversary of the NHS campaign, we thought you might appreciate these tips and hints to help your celebrations run smoothly.

1. Setting up your materials
- You will need a wall large enough to hold the canvases you ordered. See our materials page for the specification.
- You will also need a table to place the point-of-display unit with the postcards in it. You may wish to place spare postcards on the table as well as in the display unit. You may also want to put out any promotional goodies and tie up some balloons.
- The large canvas hooks supplied should be stuck to the wall one hour before the canvasses are hung. Press them down firmly. There is additional adhesive supplied if you need it.
- The canvases are large. You will need two people and a step ladder to hang them.
- Don't forget to publicise your celebration in your staff newsletter, on noticeboards and on your intranet. Word of mouth is often the best way to get people involved so start telling your colleagues about it.
2. Making the installation
- You may wish to do this on one day such as an open day or staff day where you encourage people to come and fill out the cards and add them to the exhibition. It is a good idea to have someone to man the materials and help get postcards onto the canvases.
- You can stick the cards either photo-side up or message side up. A mix is good because the colour draws people's attention and people will want to read some of the cards. The 60 will be clearer if you put the cards colour-side up around the edges.
- You can use blank cards for this if you need to.
Use the double sided sticky adhesive provided in the point-of-display unit - masking tape and ordinary sellotape won't be strong enough.
- You will need a step ladder to stick cards at the top of the canvas.
- If the installation is going to be unattended, make sure you stock up on the postcards regularly. You may wish to bring the step ladder to move cards from the bottom to the top of the canvas to make room and start to form your 60.
3. After the installation is complete
- Keep the cards up for a few weeks if you can - people will want to read them.
- You may wish to add a plaque explaining what the exhibition is about. See our sample from the Chelsea and Westminster launch.
- Make sure you take photos of your exhibition to add to our online gallery - coming soon at www.nhsemployers.org/extraordinary.
- When you take the exhibition down don't throw away the postcards - send them back to us so they can be included in the campaign finale later this year. We'll be making one giant exhibition with the postcards from all trusts taking part.
- When you take the postcards off the canvas, please stick them to bits of paper to store and post them to stop them sticking to eachother.
